Fraser Island accommodation is nearly always only accessible by 4WD vehicle. Only Kingfisher Bay Resort is accessible by ferry from Hervey Bay. Eurong Beach Resort and Orchid Beach are also accessible by plane from Hervey Bay. Special fly-drive-accommodation packages are available.
4WD rental is available from Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach. All Fraser Island accommodation is connected by non-sealed sand tracks only.
Please be advised that a permit (currently $34.40) is required to drive a 4WD vehicle on Fraser Island.
Ferries from rainbow Beach do not need to be pre-booked. Ferries from Hervey Bay do require a barge booking in advance. Please contact us for details.
